Who is Kendall Jacobs

I also enjoy learning about plants and flowers.  At one time, I gave my children a dime for every plant they could identify . . . that ended as soon as my wallet was empty!

I grew up in the “badlands” of Montana (Sidney) - Here are some family pictures – I have three children Ruth, Jayne, and Benjamin.  In my “spare” time, I love to hike the mountains.  My undergraduate work is in geology.

For the past couple of years, I’ve been involved with First Lego League Robotics.  As part of a BOCES grant, we were able to provide funding for many of the local schools.  We will hold our third annual robotics competition in December – we expect 60 teams (around 500 kids) at the Casper Events Center.

I completed my undergraduate degrees in Geology and Secondary education at Idaho State University and a Graduate Degree in Mathematics at Montana State University Bozeman.

This summer I will teach an online course for Montana State University called “Integrating Math and Science through Modeling” for teachers working on a Master’s degree.  I started teaching at Casper College in 1999.

I taught grades 8-12 at Malad High for three years before going back to graduate school.  I taught Earth Science, Physical Science, Biology, Calculus – I also coached the academic knowledge bowl team.

For the past several years, I’ve taught courses for University of Wyoming to help elementary and middle school teachers earn Masters Degrees in Natural Sciences.

Courses I’ve helped develop and teach for the University of Wyoming’s Middle School initiative include Math of Change, Numbers and Operations, and Technology

While at Montana State, I was a volunteer at the Taylor Planetarium – I’ve have done a monthly star show for the Casper Planetarium since 1999.  I’ve also written several grants to help future elementary school teachers learn about inquiry based science – the project is called “Astronomy Camp for Teachers.”  In addition, I’ve helped articulate an Astronomy course at Kelly Walsh High School that is taught at the planetarium and gets duel credit (both high school and College).  I have also taught ASTR 1000 here at Casper College.  Last summer I helped write a grant to upgrade the planetarium to a digital system!  If you get a chance, stop by watch a program – I usually do this month’s skies on the first Saturday at 7:00.  In July I’ll be doing my annual star party at Fort Laramie.

This past year I was the Co-Director for the Wyoming Science Olympiad!
