We now turn our discussion to the subject of light and telescopes. Unlike other sciences, astronomers cannot run very many of their experiments here on the planet Earth. Therefore we must rely on the information sent to us by the objects in the sky. This information comes to us in the form of light. We shall see that not all forms of light are visible. Even the invisible forms of light will be of great importance to astronomers. The instruments which we use to measure the light from deep sky objects are the telescopes. Therefore, we shall also discuss the different kinds of telescopes used by astronomers. In addition, we shall briefly discuss some of the instruments used in conjunction with the telescopes.
