You must have access to a calculator to successfully complete Statistics 2005. The minimum calculator required is a scientific calculator with statistical features. This means a calculator which has the following features:
Almost any $10-$20 calculator you buy now has all these features. However you might consider a calculator with graphical and programmable capabilities. This is especially true if you plan to take additional courses which require significant statistical analysis. One calculator with all the features you need is the Texas Instruments 83. This calculator has all the features of a scientific calculator with the additional ability to draw histograms, box plots, scattergrams and do statistical tests. You can read more about it by taking this link. I also have some instructions on using the TI-83 on the resources page. One disadvantage of these calculators is that they cost between $80-$90! If you have another calculator with similar features it is probably sufficient. Please do not hesitate to write me if you have questions about your calculator If you do not have the TI-83 calculator, you will need some basic statistical software to complete the labs assigned in this course. I have some software that you can use called STATDISK. STATDISK is not a very sophisticated program, but the price is right! (Free). I will give you a copy of STATDISK if you contact me. If you have experience with Microsoft Excel or Minitab you may use this software instead. Back to top |
